Optimal viewing distance
Minimum
Maximum

How the calculation works. Optimal distance uses the THX reference angle of 40 degrees, which places the screen's width at a subtended angle that matches professional reference conditions. Minimum distance is the SMPTE 30-degree threshold below which resolution benefit begins. Maximum distance is where the specified resolution provides no perceivable advantage over a lower resolution display at that distance. All distances are from the viewer's eye position to the screen surface.
