About TV Protect

TV Protect is an independent consumer technology resource platform. We provide practical guidance on television ownership — maintenance, calibration, buying decisions, home cinema planning and fault diagnosis. We are not a retailer, a warranty provider or an insurance product. We do not sell anything. We provide information.

The guides assume you know what an HDMI cable is but may not know what an HDCP handshake error means. We write for intelligent non-specialists — people who have bought a television, are thinking about buying one, or are setting up a viewing space and want to understand the decisions involved without having to piece it together from forum threads and YouTube comments.

Yes. We do not accept payment to feature specific products, services or brands. We do not run sponsored content. Where any affiliate relationship exists — where we receive a commission if you click through and purchase — this is disclosed clearly in the relevant content. Affiliate relationships do not influence editorial decisions. See our About page for full editorial standards.

Content is written by contributors with relevant technical background — Marcus Holt, who spent twelve years in AV installation, and Priya Sandhu, who comes from a display engineering and post-production calibration background. Guides are researched against primary sources and practical experience, not aggregated from other consumer publications. See the About page for full contributor bios.

All content includes a publication date. We review and update guides when information becomes outdated — consumer electronics technology changes quickly, and a guide accurate for 2023 products may not apply to 2026 models. If you find outdated information, please use the contact form to let us know.

Tools

The tools produce estimates based on general parameters. They are not calibrated to your specific equipment, room conditions or individual usage patterns. Outputs are presented as ranges rather than single values where possible, to reflect the genuine variability in real-world results. Use them as a starting point for decisions, not as a definitive answer to rely on alone.

No. All tool inputs are processed locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is transmitted to TV Protect servers or stored anywhere. Closing the browser tab or window clears all inputs. The tools require no account, no login and no email address to use.

Results can be saved by taking a screenshot or using your browser's print function (Ctrl+P / Cmd+P) to save as a PDF. The Setup Wizard includes a print button on the final step. We do not offer cloud saving or account-based history.

Privacy & Data

With your consent, we collect anonymised analytics data (pages visited, time on page, approximate country). Contact form submissions collect name, email and message. Newsletter sign-ups collect email address only. Tool inputs are never transmitted or stored. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018. We collect only what is necessary, process data on a lawful basis, retain it only as long as needed, and respect data subject rights. See our GDPR Compliance page for a full breakdown, or contact [email protected] for any data requests.

Cookie preferences are stored in your browser's localStorage. To change them, clear the localStorage for tvprotect.co.uk in your browser's developer tools or privacy settings — the cookie banner will reappear on your next visit. Strictly necessary cookies (tool preference memory) are set regardless of consent choice.

Contact & Corrections

Use the contact form and select "Correction or factual error" as the subject. Include the URL of the relevant page and the specific information you believe is incorrect. We investigate all corrections and update content where warranted, with an acknowledgement to the person who reported it if they wish.

Yes. Use the contact form with "Topic suggestion" as the subject. We add well-supported suggestions to our publication queue. We cannot guarantee a timeline for every suggestion, but topics that come up repeatedly tend to move up the queue.

See the Services page for descriptions of what we offer, then use the contact form with "Service enquiry" selected. We aim to respond within three working days.
